Karol Marcela Escalante is a Master's graduate student and instructor in the Department of Communication at George Mason University, teaching Fundamentals of Communication (COMM101).
Her educational background includes:
- Master’s Degree in Media Design Management from the International Academy of Design and Technology of Tampa
- Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH)
- Certificate in International Relations from the National Autonomous University of Honduras (UNAH)
- Certificate in English for Journalism from University of Pennsylvania
- Certificate in Global Diplomacy in the Modern World from University of London
- Certificate in Digital Media and Labor Rights from the Latin American Social Studies Institute (FLACSO), Argentina
With over fifteen years of international media and diplomatic experience, she served as Former Consul General of Honduras in Chicago, developing community programs in immigration, education, and labor rights while promoting Honduran tourism and culture. Previously as First Secretary of Communications and Cultural Affairs at the Honduran Embassy to the United States, she coordinated communications between Honduran Presidents and U.S. authorities including the White House.
Her research interests center on International Communication and Public Diplomacy, informed by her practical work in cross-cultural engagement, media strategy, and international relations, with additional focus on Journalism and Digital Media applications in diplomatic contexts.
