Karlheinz Schuster is a part-time Lecturer in Polonistik at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz, where he has taught since 2011. He holds a PhD in Philosophy from Goethe University Frankfurt (1990) and specializes in Polish-German literary translation, particularly the works of Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz (Witkacy). His editorial role includes membership in the journal Prace Literaturoznawcze at the University of Warmia and Mazury.
Schuster's research focuses on Polish literature, translation theory, theater studies, and Witkacy's avant-garde dramaturgy. His work explores intersections of philosophy, onomastics, and cultural adaptation, with emphases on existential themes, linguistic semiotics, and cross-cultural mediation in Slavic contexts.
His publications (2009–2021) predominantly analyze Witkacy's plays, covering motifs like death, identity, and eroticism; translation methodologies for dramatic texts; and the role of science in avant-garde theater. Recurring themes include absurdism, Polish modernism, and German-Polish cultural exchange.
