Laura Schnieder is a Research Fellow in the DFG Research Training Group (GRK) 'Life Sciences – Life Writing' at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. She is affiliated with the Institute for History, Theory and Ethics of Medicine within the Faculty of Medicine. Her PhD project, titled 'Experimental Subjects in Clinical Pharmaceutical Research in Germany,' examines the social and ethical dimensions of participation in clinical trials, focusing on demographic characteristics, motivations, and experiences of experimental subjects in Germany.
Background: Laura holds a Master's degree in Sociology from Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main (2014), with a thesis on 'Marketing Risk: A Social-Scientific Analysis of Clinical Trial Recruitment Posters.' She previously worked as a student assistant at the Cornelia Goethe Center for Women's and Gender Studies and the BMBF-funded project 'Genetic Discrimination in Germany.'
Research Interests: Reproductive technologies, commodification of the human body, predictive medical knowledge, and the ethical implications of biomedical innovation. Her work critically engages with the tensions between experimental medicine and bodily integrity in pharmaceutical research.
Funding: Supported by the DFG (German Research Foundation) through the GRK program. She contributes to interdisciplinary dialogue at the intersection of humanities, cultural studies, and life sciences.
