Eva Mildenberger

Prof. Dr. Eva Mildenberger is a Professor and Chair of Neonatology at the Johannes Gutenberg University Medical Center, Mainz, Germany. Her clinical focus is on caring for premature infants and newborns with complex perinatal complications. She trained in social sciences before specializing in pediatrics and neonatology. Since 2008, she has led the Department of Neonatology, addressing ethical and medical challenges at life’s earliest stages. She is an associated scientist in the interdisciplinary graduate program Life Sciences – Life Writing, bridging medical practice with narrative and philosophical inquiry.

Her work explores the intersection of clinical care and humanities, particularly in contexts involving life-and-death decisions for neonates, such as viability thresholds and congenital anomalies.
