Karl Zechtenter

Karl Zechtenter is a Lecturer in Graphics/Art Education at the Department of Fine Arts & Design, Mozarteum University in Salzburg. He is a freelance artist, director, and curator with the artist group gold extra, active since the 1990s. His work bridges media, technology, and societal themes. He was artistic director of ARGEkultur (1999–2005), directed the Offmozart Festival (2006), and founded the basics Festival. He sits on advisory boards for the state of Salzburg.

His research focuses on the intersection of science and art, reflected in projects like the Local Crisis Machine (2013) and the game From Darkness (2012). Exhibitions include the Ethnological Museum Berlin, ZKM Karlsruhe, and Ars Electronica. He also teaches at the University of Salzburg and collaborates with institutions like BELEF Belgrade and the Games For Change Festival New York.

Key achievements include awards such as the Ferdinand Eberherr Prize (1997) and the Media Prize of Salzburg (2012). His work explores critical societal issues through interactive and digital mediums.
