Karl W.J. Williard is a Professor of Forest Hydrology and Watershed Management and serves as Director of the School of Forestry and Horticulture at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIU). With over two decades of academic service since 1999, he leads research and educational initiatives focused on watershed science and sustainable land management practices in agricultural and forested landscapes.
His educational credentials include a Ph.D. in Forest Hydrology (1999) and M.S. in Environmental Pollution Control (1996) from Pennsylvania State University, and a B.A. in Biology (1994) from Lehigh University. This interdisciplinary foundation bridges biological sciences with specialized hydrological expertise.
Dr. Williard's research centers on agricultural impacts on soil-water systems, particularly nitrogen/phosphorus attenuation in riparian buffers, forest management effects on erosion, and watershed-scale planning. His work integrates field measurements with landscape analysis to address critical water quality challenges in Midwestern agroecosystems, emphasizing practical solutions for sustainable land use.
