Dr. Karl Steptoe is the Head of Applied and Performance Sport Psychology at Loughborough University, joining in 2017 and assuming his current leadership role in 2025. He holds a BSc in Psychology (University of Greenwich, 2008) and an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology (Loughborough University, 2009), followed by a PhD from the University of Greenwich (2016) focused on motivational influences on attentional processes in competitive golfers.
Before Loughborough, he served in lecturing roles in Psychology at London Metropolitan University and the University of Greenwich. His research specializes in applying psychological principles to enhance athletic performance, with a focus on motivation, attentional strategies, and optimizing mental preparation in competitive sports.
