Karl Slifer

Karl Slifer is a Professor of Physics & Astronomy at the University of New Hampshire (UNH), part of the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. and B.S. in Physics from Temple University (1990–2004) and was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of Virginia (2004–2008). His research focuses on nuclear and particle physics, particularly nucleon spin structure, electromagnetic studies, and short-range correlations in nuclei. He leads major experiments at facilities like Jefferson Lab and has contributed to detector design for the Electron-Ion Collider (EIC).

Slifer has secured significant grants, including DOE funding for projects like 'Electromagnetic Studies of Nucleon and Nuclear Structure' ($1.8M+). He advises Ph.D. students in experimental nuclear physics and has mentored dozens of researchers. His honors include the Southeastern Universities Research Association Thesis Prize (2004) and Temple University awards for research and academic excellence.

Teaching responsibilities include quantum mechanics, modern physics, and nuclear/particle physics courses. He actively participates in professional committees, including the Jefferson Lab User Group Board and UNH Radiation Safety Committee. His work bridges theoretical predictions with experimental validation, advancing understanding of QCD phenomena and nucleon structure.
