Karl Gauffin is a Senior Lecturer/Researcher at the Department of Public Health Sciences, Stockholm University, with a PhD from Karolinska Institutet and prior studies at Freie Universität Berlin, University of Edinburgh, and UC Berkeley. His work focuses on health inequalities, pandemic policy impacts, mental health sociology, and future health concepts. He holds academic appointments since 2011 and coordinates the university’s public health bachelor’s program.
Research interests include the societal and policy effects of the unequal pandemic response, resilience in adversity, and intersections between technology and health futures. Key projects include leading the Den ojämlika pandemin (Health Inequalities in Pandemic Responses) and co-leading the Rise project on childhood adversity resilience. His work has been funded by Forte and NordForsk.
Teaching responsibilities include advanced courses in global health, epidemiology, and health equity. Recent publications (2021–2025) address pandemic policy clusters, refugee health outcomes, and climate impacts on child health. He critiques methodological gaps in Nordic register data and advocates for theoretical rigor in public health research.
