- PhD in Economics (Dr. Polit., 1996), University of Oslo
- Cand. Oecon. (1988), University of Oslo
Her research bridges environmental economics and behavioral economics, focusing on the economic analysis of social and moral norms. She explores how policies interact with intrinsic motivations and how environmental concerns can be integrated into public decision-making frameworks.
Recent work highlights themes like green taxation, corporate social responsibility, and social norms in resource conservation. Key findings examine how well-designed policies can reinforce rather than undermine moral motivations and the role of endogenous group formation in public goods provision.
- Erik Kempe Award (2002) for best European paper in environmental economics
- Hallsworth Visiting Professor (2015), University of Manchester
- Member of Norwegian Government’s Expert Commissions (1994–2012) on sustainability, petroleum taxation, and cost-benefit analysis
Professor Nyborg has advised on national cost-benefit frameworks and contributes to interdisciplinary projects at the intersection of economics and ecological systems.
