Karine Hellemans is a Professor of Clinical Sciences at Brussels Free University-VUB since 2006, coordinating the Diabetes Research Center and the Center for Beta Cell Therapy in Diabetes. Her research focuses on beta cell biology, biomaterials, and preclinical methods to enhance beta cell function. She holds a PhD in Medical Sciences (2003) and an MSc in Biology (1991).

Awards: 2007 Poster Prize from the Belgian Society for Cell Biology.
