Karin Enskär is a Professor of Paediatric Nursing at Uppsala University's Department of Women's and Children's Health, holding a dual role as a Specialist Nurse at Uppsala University Hospital since 2021. Her academic career spans multiple international collaborations with researchers from China, Singapore, South Africa, USA, and Sweden.
Her research interests focus on critical areas of pediatric healthcare including nursing care of children with cancer, stress and pain management during medical procedures, children as next of kin to ill parents, and Child and School Health services. She has dedicated her work to understanding children's and young people's health, nursing of sick children and their families, caring practices, quality of life considerations, pain management strategies, and children's rights.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals a consistent focus on pediatric oncology nursing, pain management interventions, children's mental health, and school-healthcare system interactions. Her work frequently employs qualitative methodologies to explore children's lived experiences, with particular attention to transitions between healthcare settings and daily life, as well as the emotional and psychological aspects of pediatric medical care.
Professor Enskär actively supervises postgraduate students and colleagues across various research projects including studies on everyday life and nursing care for children with cancer, stress and pain during medical procedures, children with sick parents, and nursing care in Child and School Health services.
