Karin Dahlman-Wright is an Associate Professor (Docent) at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden’s leading medical university. She currently serves as a Specialist in the Office of Research Support and External Relations within the Professional Services division. Previously, she held significant roles including Vice-President of Karolinska Institutet (2016–2019), Acting President (2016–2017), and Head of the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition (2009–2015). She has been actively involved in managing research infrastructure, including founding the BEA core facility for genomics and bioinformatics, and serving as KI Scientific Director at SciLifeLab (2013–2015).
Her research focuses on estrogen signaling pathways and their roles in type 2 diabetes and breast cancer. Key areas include studying mouse models with tissue-specific estrogen receptor knockouts, global gene expression changes, and functional genomics technologies like ChIP-SEQ. She explores molecular mechanisms linking estrogen receptors to cancer progression and metabolic disorders.
Dr. Dahlman-Wright serves on multiple advisory boards, including SciLifeLab’s Stockholm steering board and the AstraZeneca/KI/SciLifeLab collaboration committee. She has evaluated research programs for the Swedish and Norwegian Research Councils and contributed to patent-related expertise. Her academic qualifications include a PhD in Medical Sciences (1991) and Docent title in Molecular Endocrinology (1996), both from Karolinska Institutet.
Her recent publications emphasize estrogen receptor modulation in cancer, epigenetic regulation in obesity, and metabolic pathways in diabetes. She has pioneered career paths for research infrastructure specialists and advocates for sustainable research practices. Her work bridges basic science with clinical applications, particularly in hormonal oncology and endocrine-related metabolic diseases.
