معرفی
Ingrid Dahlman is an Adjunct Professor of Diabetes Research at the Department of Medicine, Huddinge and Senior Consultant in Endocrinology and Diabetology at Ersta Hospital, Stockholm. She is affiliated with the Department of Clinical Science and Education, Södersjukhuset at Karolinska Institutet where she holds an appointment from 2023-2027. Dahlman is also part of the NeuroCardioMetabol Group led by Thomas Nyström & Cesare Patrone, focusing on the intersection of metabolic, cardiovascular, and neurological research.
Dahlman's research centers on the role of human abdominal subcutaneous adipose tissue in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes development. Her work employs global transcriptome and DNA methylome profiling, along with genetic association analyses, to define gene regulatory pathways in adipocytes that contribute to adipose tissue dysfunction. She has identified several key genes including PLXND1 and LAMB3 that regulate body fat size, distribution, and adipose morphology. Her research spans molecular mechanisms of adipose tissue function, genetic determinants of obesity, and clinical aspects of metabolic diseases including post-pancreatitis diabetes.
Analysis of her recent publications (2020-2025) reveals a strong focus on adipose tissue biology, particularly examining the molecular mechanisms linking adipose dysfunction to insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Her work integrates genetic, epigenetic, and transcriptomic approaches with clinical observations, demonstrating how adipose tissue characteristics influence metabolic health. Recent studies highlight connections between adipose tissue inflammation, lipid metabolism, and insulin signaling pathways, with particular attention to how these mechanisms differ between adipose depots and how they respond to interventions like bariatric surgery.
Dahlman has maintained an active research program with numerous collaborative publications in high-impact journals including Nature Communications, Diabetes, and Cell Metabolism. Her work bridges basic molecular research with clinical applications, particularly in understanding the pathophysiology of obesity-related metabolic disorders.
As an active researcher and clinician, Dahlman contributes to both academic and clinical aspects of endocrinology and diabetes care. Her dual role as Adjunct Professor and Senior Consultant enables her to translate research findings into clinical practice while maintaining a strong laboratory research program focused on adipose tissue biology and its role in metabolic disease.
