Dr. Kari Lenhart is an Assistant Professor and Co-Director of the Graduate Biology Program in Drexel University's Biology Department. She holds a PhD from Princeton University and completed postdoctoral training at University of Pennsylvania.
Her laboratory studies Drosophila testis stem cell systems to understand niche-stem cell interactions. Research explores how somatic cells regulate germline stem cell biology, tissue regeneration during stress, disruptions in tumorigenesis and aging, and comparative soma-germline dynamics between testes and ovaries. The lab employs genetic techniques and live imaging to investigate these mechanisms.
Current projects examine somatic control of germline restoration, aging impacts on niche function, and sexual dimorphism in stem cell environments.
