Kari Kalve is a Professor of English at Earlham College, with affiliations across multiple departments including Comparative Languages and Linguistics, Creative Writing, English, Media and Communications, and Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, an M.A. from the University of California, Berkeley, and a B.A. from the University of Washington. Her research focuses on transnational approaches to English literature from the British Middle Ages to contemporary postcolonial contexts, literary and cultural theory, and the role of liberal arts in higher education.
Dr. Kalve teaches courses on English literature, film, and literary theory. She has led off-campus programs in England and India and supervised student research on literature and architecture. She is committed to Earlham's liberal arts mission, emphasizing interdisciplinary education and students' holistic development as scholars and engaged citizens.
Her notable publication includes an analysis of Piers Plowman B, exploring themes of truth and community in medieval narratives.
