Karen Till

Karen Till is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography at Maynooth University, part of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. She holds a PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has held previous academic positions at institutions including Louisiana State University, the University of Minnesota, and Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research focuses on cultural geography, memory politics, and the intersection of art with urban and spatial practices. Till directs the Space&Place Research Collaborative and is a Member of the Royal Irish Academy.

Education: PhD in Cultural Geography (University of Wisconsin-Madison, 1996), M.A. in Cultural and Urban Geography (University of California, Los Angeles, 1991), B.A. in Ecosystems (UCLA, 1986).

Research Interests: Memory-work in post-conflict cities, ethics of care, artistic interventions in urban spaces, and feminist counter-topographies. Current projects include investigations into 'Wounded Cities' and spatial justice in Dublin. Till has curated exhibitions like Earth Writings and contributed to transnational networks like Mapping Spectral Traces.

Awards: Erskine Visiting Fellowship, Anne U. White Award, Gillmor Visiting Professorship, and multiple teaching accolades including the Distinguished Teaching Award.

Grants & Projects: Led projects like 'Reimagining European Public Space' (HERA-funded) and 'The Geopolitical Trauma of AIDS in Cape Town.' Advises on community initiatives like the Granby Park Pop-Up Park project.

Labs/Teams: Director of Space&Place Research Collaborative, co-convener of Feminist Counter-Topographies Reading Group, and partner in the Mapping Spectral Traces international network.
