Karen Sanders

Prof Karen Sanders serves as Interim Dean of the Faculty of Business and Law at St Mary's University, Twickenham. Previously, she held roles as Professor, Assistant Dean, and Head of the Department of Advertising and Communication at CEU San Pablo University in Spain, alongside adjunct roles at IESE Business School. She earned her undergraduate degree from Durham University (English & Philosophy), MA/PhD in Communications from the University of Navarra, and has held editorial roles in journalism.

Her research focuses on political communication, media ethics, and healthcare communication. Notable work includes studies on media representation of migration, digital health communication, and pandemic governance. She has pioneered research into deathbed etiquette in palliative care and examined modern slavery victim narratives. Her career spans both academic leadership and practical journalism experience in London’s financial sector.

Key contributions include co-authoring The Routledge Companion to Journalism Ethics, analyzing populist communication strategies across 16 European countries, and developing frameworks for government communication during crises. She has advised on telehealth innovations and ethical criteria for pandemic ICU resource allocation, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach bridging communication studies and healthcare policy.
