Karen Miller is an Associate Professor of Music Therapy at Indiana Wesleyan University's Division of Music+Theatre. Previously, she served for 18 years as Professor and Director of Music Therapy at Sam Houston State University. With over 10 years of clinical experience in Florida, South Carolina, and Texas, her expertise spans music therapy applications in psychiatric care for adolescents and Neurologic Music Therapy for stroke, TBI, and Parkinson's patients.
Education includes a Bachelor of Music Education from Oklahoma Baptist University (1989) and a Master of Music (M.M.) from Florida State University (1991). She has presented research internationally and authored works in the Journal of Music Therapy and Music Therapy Perspectives.
Leadership roles include Past-President of the American Music Therapy Association's Southwestern Region (SWAMTA) and co-chair of AMTA's Academic Program Approval Committee. She established the SHSU Music Therapy Clinic and expanded graduate programs in music therapy. Additionally, she is a singer/songwriter with two original CD releases.
