With a PhD from the University of Western Australia (2010), her research examines the impact of trauma on children's educational experiences and develops evidence-based strategies to create supportive school environments. Her work addresses the intersection of mental health, family violence, and educational outcomes, with particular attention to vulnerable populations.
Her publications span childhood trauma interventions, school mental health services, canine-assisted therapy research, and developmental psychology. Recent work examines dehumanization in child development, cross-cultural studies of child behavior, and applications of biopsychosocial models in animal research. Her implementation science approach focuses on translating research into practical strategies for educators and policymakers.
Professor Martin has contributed to educational policy discussions through evidence-based critiques of mental health service delivery models in schools and advocacy for trauma-informed practices. Her program development work demonstrates commitment to sustainable interventions that address mental health challenges in educational settings.
