Karen Wynter is a Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the School of Clinical Sciences, Monash University, with a strong research profile in perinatal mental health and public health. She has held prior research positions at the Jean Hailes Research Unit (Monash University) and Deakin University’s Faculty of Health, working in partnership with Western Health. Her work is deeply collaborative and aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to health and well-being.

Her research focuses on:
- Antenatal and postnatal depression and anxiety in both women and men
- Fatigue and functional status in the early postpartum period
- Intimate partner relationships during the transition to parenthood
- Health literacy and health service use among new parents
- Father-infant attachment and paternal mental health
Her recent publications (2021–2025) show a strong trend in fatherhood research, health equity, and systematic reviews. Topics include father-focused interventions to reduce intimate partner violence, barriers to health service access for fathers, and the role of fathers in nutrition and physical activity during early childhood. These works reflect a broad interdisciplinary approach combining psychology, public health, and clinical research.
Karen Wynter has served as a Primary Chief Investigator on multiple research grants, including projects funded by the Jack Brockhoff Foundation and Australian Rotary Health. She is currently active in two major ongoing research projects: one on improving cervical cancer screening for women with severe mental illness, and another on the impact of paternal trauma on child anxiety. Her collaborative network spans Monash University, Deakin University, and various health services.
