Dr. Karen M. Magro is a full Professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg, with over 40 years of teaching experience across multiple countries. She holds a doctoral degree from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. Her academic roles include Editor-in-Chief of The International Journal of Creativity and Talent Development since 2012 and adjunct roles at the University of Manitoba, where she designed adult education courses in leadership and pedagogy.
Her research focuses on transcultural literacies, creativity in education, transformative learning, and social justice. She has authored/co-authored numerous books, including Artistic Literacies (in press) and Transforming English Language Arts (2023). Her work emphasizes integrating visual art, poetry, and multicultural narratives to foster critical thinking and global citizenship.
Dr. Magro has received awards for her contributions to education, including the 2012 Merron-Chorney Award and a 2016 honor from the International Centre for Innovation in Education. Her teaching spans K-12 and higher education, with a focus on English language arts, adult literacy, and emotional intelligence.
Current research explores ecoliteracy through art, creativity in curricula, and international collaborations in arts-based education. She actively contributes to open educational resources (OER) and collaborates with educators globally on transformative learning initiatives.
