Karen Kensek

Karen Kensek is a Professor at the University of Southern California (USC) in the School of Architecture. Her academic career spans over 20 years, focusing on computer applications in architecture, particularly Building Information Modeling (BIM), sustainability, and digital design. She previously taught at the University of California, Berkeley, where she secured numerous grants and software donations. As a former ACADIA president, she has championed BIM integration with interdisciplinary design and sustainability.

Her research interests include BIM for sustainable design, virtual reconstruction of historical sites, solar envelopes, and daylight/glare analysis. Notable contributions include co-editing Building Information Modeling: BIM in Current and Future Practice (Wiley, 2014) and authoring the widely translated Building Information Modeling (Routledge, 2014).

Dr. Kensek’s work bridges academia and practice, hosting annual BIM symposia at USC since 2008 and collaborating with industry leaders like Autodesk. Her awards include the 2002 Tau Sigma Delta Medal for Teaching and the 2010 AIA TAP Group Honorable Mention.
