Karen Hart is a Teaching Professor in the Department of English at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse (UW-L), where she has taught since 2007. She holds a PhD in Literature from UC San Diego (2007), an MA in German Literature (2003), and a BA in Literature and Writing (1995), both from UC San Diego. She also received a Fulbright Grant for study in Innsbruck, Austria (1998–1999).
Her research and teaching interests include Fairy Tales, College Writing pedagogy, Trickster Literature, Multi-Ethnic/Multi-Cultural Literature, German Literature, and the application of Eco-Criticism and theories of abjection in literary analysis. She has presented widely on these topics, including papers on Hans Christian Andersen's Snow Queen, Robert Musil's The Man without Qualities, and the role of storytelling in feminist empowerment.
Recent professional contributions include panel discussions on writing assessment strategies (2019–2021) and presentations on interdisciplinary approaches to literature at UW-L's English Department Colloquium and Women's Studies events. Her teaching emphasizes innovative methods like improvisation and online pedagogy.
