Dr. Karen Granger is an Associate Professor and Department Chair in the Department of Specialized Educational Programs at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke (UNC Pembroke). She holds leadership roles including Program Coordinator for the AIG Add-on Licensure Program and Regional Director of the NC New Teacher Support Program. With over 25 years of experience in K-12 and higher education, she specializes in teacher development and educator support systems.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree from Converse College
- Master’s degree from University of Georgia
- Ed.D. in Educational Leadership (Curriculum & Instruction) from University of North Carolina Wilmington
Research & Service: Her work focuses on beginning teacher induction, alternative teacher certification, and educator retention strategies. She co-chairs the NC New Teacher Support Program’s Conceptual Framework Taskforce and serves on the UNC Pembroke Faculty Senate and Council for Educator Preparation Programs (CEPP). She teaches courses in the professional core, Elementary Education, and AIG Programs.
Professional Engagement: Previously taught elementary/middle grades art and worked at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art and Georgia Museum of Art. Active in university governance and state/national educational initiatives.
