معرفی
Karen G. Wiles serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, and directs the MS in Medical Physiology program since 2023.
Education:
- B.S. Chemistry (Biology minor), Salisbury University (1999-2003)
- Ph.D. Pathology, Cellular & Molecular Pathology Program, Vanderbilt University (2003-2010)
Her research integrates Cardiovascular Physiology, Vision Physiology, and Medical Education innovation. Early work examined bacterial manipulation of human fibrinolysis, while current scholarship focuses on educational technology for physiology instruction, evidenced by multiple curriculum development grants. She bridges molecular mechanisms with clinical applications through pedagogical research.
Her 2010 publication on streptococcal plasminogen-binding proteins established foundational work in bacterial pathogenesis, reflecting interdisciplinary approaches spanning microbiology and cardiovascular systems. Current scholarship emphasizes educational design rather than basic science publications.
Grants:
- Pilot Program: Visible Body Integration in Anatomy and Physiology II (2021, PI, $2,000)
- Custom Interactive Histology Atlas Creation (2023-2024, PI, $30,000)
- Physiology Behind Vision Lab Development (2022, Co-I, $2,000)
Dr. Wiles collaborates with Christina Wilson, Juan Manuel Ramiro-Diaz, and other physiology educators on curriculum innovation. She leads institutional pedagogy initiatives including the Data-Informed Pedagogy Faculty Workgroup and Growth Mindset Learning Community as Provost Learning Scholar.
