Dr. Karen Burns is a Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design at the University of Melbourne's Melbourne School of Design. Her work focuses on architectural history, urban design, and equity in the field. She actively contributes to academic and professional journals such as Architectural Australia and AR, and serves as a public commentator on contemporary architectural issues.
She co-edits Parlour, a platform advancing discussions on women and equity in architecture. Burns is affiliated with the Australian Centre for Architectural History, Urban and Cultural Heritage (ACAHUCH), where her research explores the intersection of architectural design, urban pasts, and creative practice.
Her interdisciplinary approach bridges historical, cultural, and innovative aspects of architecture, emphasizing social equity and gender dynamics within the discipline.
