Karen Broughton

Karen Broughton is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for Physical Education (PE) and PE and Sports Coaching at the University of Worcester's School of Sport and Exercise Science. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Movement Science and Physical Education (1997), PGCE in Secondary PE (1998), MA Education (2020), and PG Cert Research Methods (2023). Currently pursuing a part-time PhD investigating gender disparities in artistic gymnastics.

• Teaching Focus: Primary PE, gymnastics pedagogy, and sociology modules across undergraduate programs
• Research Interests: Power relations in sport, particularly gender dynamics in competitive gymnastics

Professional experience includes Programme Manager at Youth Sport Trust (developing national PE resources) and teacher development work with Worcestershire Local Delivery Agency. Holds Level 2 Gymnastics Coach and other sports coaching qualifications.
