Alison Carney

Alison Carney serves as Senior Lecturer and Course Director for Physical Education degree programs at Canterbury Christ Church University within the School of Sciences, Psychology, Arts and Humanities, Computing, Engineering and Sports and Department of Sports and Exercise. She transitioned from an initial secondment role (one day weekly while Head of Girls' PE at a comprehensive school) to full-time academic leadership overseeing multiple degree pathways including BSc (Hons) Physical Education and Sport & Exercise Science, Foundation Degrees, and BA (Hons) 'top up' programs.

Her research and teaching expertise centers on Physical Education, Sport Science, Exercise Science, and Physical Activity across primary and secondary education contexts. She has developed curricula for Primary UG QTS courses, PGCE programs, and School Direct pathways while emphasizing student-centered learning through placement link tutoring and academic year leadership.

As a Personal Academic Tutor, Carney prioritizes student wellbeing and collaborative community building through transparency and trust within the PE team. Her background includes representing England in netball from U16 to Senior levels with County-level coaching experience; she now pursues Concept 2 rowing following a knee replacement. External roles include Trustee Governorship and active social media engagement as a PE Lead advocating for physical activity education.
