Dr. Ioannis Karapanos is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Crop Science, Agricultural University of Athens, specializing in vegetable production and postharvest technology. He has contributed extensively to research on plant physiology, seed quality, and sustainable horticultural practices through over 40 national conference proceedings and multiple international publications.
- Teaching: Instructs undergraduate and postgraduate courses including 'Principles of Vegetable Production' and 'Postharvest Handling of Fruits and Vegetables' since 1996. Served as part-time lecturer at the Technological Educational Institute of Kalamata (2008-2010) and Agricultural University of Athens (2010-2012).
- Research: Focuses on greenhouse crop physiology, postharvest handling, and environmental stress responses in solanaceous vegetables. Led national projects funded by Compo Hellas and Medilco Hellas.
- Collaborations: Participated in EU programs Legume Futures (FP7) and Eurolegume, and COST Action FA1204 on vegetable grafting.
His work spans factors influencing tomato pollen germination, nitrogen application effects on leafy vegetables, and sustainable cultivation techniques using organic amendments. He has supervised 1 PhD, 4 MSc, and over 25 undergraduate theses while co-authoring a textbook on postharvest handling of fruits and vegetables (2015).
