Kara Tighe is a Lecturer in Agricultural Economics and Consulting at the School of Environmental and Rural Science, University of New England. She holds a Ph.D. and Bachelor of Agricultural Economics (Honours 1) from UNE, alongside a Diploma of Modern Languages (Japanese). Her research focuses on consumer demand for meat products, behavioral economics, and environmental sustainability in local production cycles. Previously, she worked at Meat & Livestock Australia and completed her Ph.D. with Sheep CRC scholarship support, examining meat consumption modifiers.
Teaching areas include farm management, accounting, consulting methods, microeconomics, and gross margin analysis. She currently teaches Decision Making Skills for Agricultural Consultants (CSLT303) and Sheep Production (ANPR350).
Her research emphasizes consumer behavior and environmental impacts, with notable publications in the Australasian Agribusiness Review, Australian Journal of Agricultural and Resource Economics, and Animal Production Science. Kara received the DH Drummond Thesis Prize in Economics and actively contributes to community initiatives, serving as Secretary of the Armidale Farmers Market Committee.
