Kangwook Lee serves as a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, maintaining his office in M1002G, Engineering Centers Building at 1550 Engineering Dr, Madison, WI. His research program bridges theoretical foundations with practical AI applications, focusing on machine learning, deep learning, information theory, and coding systems.
Dr. Lee's educational background includes a PhD (2016) and MS (2012) from the University of California-Berkeley, and a BS (2010) from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) where he graduated with the highest GPA. His recent work has focused on generative AI, particularly developing information and coding theory-based frameworks for prompt engineering, which earned him the 2023 Amazon Research Award.
