معرفی
Kenneth Rose is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and has received prestigious awards such as the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award and the IEEE Communications Society Bennett Prize-Paper Award.
- PhD, California Institute of Technology (CalTech)
His research spans information theory, signal compression, source-channel coding, video/audio coding and processing, pattern recognition, and nonconvex optimization. He focuses on end-to-end distortion estimation in video transmission over lossy packet networks, optimal prediction in scalable coding, distributed source coding for sensor networks, and information-theoretic optimization in high-dimensional data retrieval.
Key trends in his publications include advancements in 360 video coding, scalable video/audio algorithms, distributed source coding, and perceptual modeling for audio compression. His work bridges theoretical foundations with practical applications in multimedia networking and optimization.
Scientific Awards:
- Fellow of IEEE
- IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award
- IEEE Communications Society Bennett Prize-Paper Award
Prof. Rose has advised numerous students who have received accolades, including Jingning Han, Vinay Melkote, and Tejaswi Nanjundaswamy. He leads the Signal Compression Lab (SCL) at UCSB, which integrates theoretical and applied research in signal compression, multimedia transmission, and bioinformatics.
