Kaneen Gomez-Hixson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Nutrition and Public Health at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ), affiliated with the School of Interdisciplinary Health and Science. She holds an M.S. in Nutrition and a Graduate Certificate in Sports Nutrition from USJ and is pursuing a doctoral degree in Health Sciences at Northern Illinois University. Her research focuses on low energy availability in athletes and its effects on endocrine systems and gut microbiome.
Prof. Gomez-Hixson is a registered dietitian with clinical experience at the Hospital of Central Connecticut and has served as an adjunct faculty member and clinical instructor at USJ since 2019. She leads the USJ Athlete Nutrition Advising Program, providing sports nutrition services to student-athletes and underserved athletes. She is also a member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND) and the Collegiate and Professional Sports Dietitians Association (CPSDA).
Her teaching includes courses like NUTR101: Survey of Careers in Nutrition. Her work bridges clinical practice, academia, and community outreach, emphasizing athlete health and nutrition accessibility.
