Kamila Kwasniewska is a Research Fellow in Botany at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. She serves as project manager for the ERC-funded TERRAFORM project, overseeing research coordination, and leads a day-length study in plant growth chambers. She also lectures occasionally on Plant Molecular Biology and Plant Breeding & Biotechnology.
Education: BSc Microbiology (University of Wrocław, Poland, 2006), MSc Botany (University of Wrocław, 2008), PhD in Plant Developmental Genetics (Trinity College Dublin, 2017).
Research Interests: Kamila specializes in plant developmental genetics, particularly floral meristem termination in Arabidopsis thaliana. Her work extends to applied research, including commercialization of plant-based sensors for controlled environments and citizen science initiatives like the Tephra Bag Experiment (volcanic ash weathering as carbon capture). Currently, she leads an art-science collaboration funded by the Arts Council Ireland, exploring lichens as air quality indicators through interdisciplinary methods.
Grants & Projects: ERC Proof of Concept Grant (2017–), Arts Council Ireland (current lichen project). Her research integrates ecological innovation with public engagement, exemplified by initiatives like the ‘volcanic ash teabag kit’ for citizen science.
Labs & Affiliations: Plant Developmental Genetics Laboratory (Trinity College Dublin), Smurfit Institute of Genetics. Collaborates with iCRAG and interdisciplinary teams bridging art and environmental science.
