Kamal Khadka is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant Sciences at the University of Idaho's College of Agricultural and Life Sciences. He aims to develop genetically superior Brassica cultivars through advanced breeding tools and participatory approaches. His education includes a PhD from the University of Guelph (2020) and degrees from Tribhuvan University (M.S. 2007, B.S. 2005).
Research focuses on broadening Brassica genetic diversity, investigating breeding methods for improved cultivars, and developing climate-resilient varieties for Idaho and the Pacific Northwest. International work includes participatory development of maize and rice varieties in Nepal and conservation breeding of underutilized species.
Awards include best poster prizes at Canadian agronomy conferences (2017-2018), IDRC Graduate Research Award (2017), and recognition for technical excellence in Nepal (2009). Publications span canola breeding, drought tolerance in wheat, seed system reforms, and participatory research methodologies.
