Kam Ng

Kam Ng is a Professor in the Department of Civil & Architectural Engineering at the University of Wyoming, within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Iowa State University and is a licensed Professional Engineer in Wyoming. He leads an active research group focused on sustainable geotechnics for highway and energy infrastructure.

His research interests include foundation engineering, soil-structure interaction, geotechnical reliability, pavement foundation, slope stability, energy geotechnics (geothermal, carbon sequestration, hydrogen storage), and the innovative use of coal-derived materials. His work integrates field investigations, laboratory testing, and advanced modeling to address challenges in infrastructure resilience and sustainability.

His recent publications (2023–2024) demonstrate a strong trend toward sustainable materials, energy geotechnics, and advanced geomechanical modeling, with a focus on coal char utilization, CO2 and H2 storage in geological formations, and improved design methods for deep foundations in complex geomaterials.

Dr. Ng advises multiple graduate students and postdoctoral researchers and has secured significant funding from the U.S. Department of Energy and state transportation agencies. His research group actively collaborates on projects related to carbon sequestration, hydrogen storage, and sustainable construction materials. He teaches graduate courses in advanced foundation engineering, rock mechanics, and slope stability, as well as undergraduate courses in soil mechanics and foundation design.
