Soon Min Ng

Soon Min Ng is an Assistant Professor and Programme Director of the Civil Engineering programme at Heriot-Watt University Malaysia's School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society. He holds a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering from Universiti Sains Malaysia (2016), alongside B.Eng and M.Sc degrees in Civil Engineering from the same institution (2009 and 2012). He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng, UK), Professional Engineer (PEng, Malaysia), and member of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). His professional roles include committee membership in the Geotechnical Engineering Technical Division (GETD) of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) since 2018.

His research focuses on rainfall-induced slope failures, unsaturated soil mechanics, slope stability forecasting, and sustainable construction materials. Key projects include developing 3D subsurface models for landslide investigations, groundwater level prediction systems, and pore pressure response modeling during rainfall infiltration. He has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed publications since 2012, emphasizing geotechnical hazards, numerical modeling, and sustainable engineering solutions.
