Kalvis Brangulis serves as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Human Physiology and Biochemistry at Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU), where he has been employed since 2013, progressing from Lecturer to his current position. He concurrently holds a research position at the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Centre since 2016, demonstrating his dual commitment to academic instruction and scientific investigation.
Dr. Brangulis earned his Dr. biol. degree in molecular biology from the University of Latvia in 2014, completed PhD studies in Pharmacy at RSU (2008-2011), and received his Master of Pharmacy degree from RSU (2002-2007). His academic foundation was established at Talsi Gymnasium (1996-2002).
His research focuses on Molecular Biology and Structural Biology, with specialized expertise in protein crystallography of Borrelia burgdorferi proteins. Dr. Brangulis has developed and taught courses including Medical Biochemistry (which he heads), Biochemistry, Biochemistry of Different Pathologies, Cell Metabolism, and Preclinical Dismetabolism. His scholarly work is supported by multiple grants including ERDF and EC Framework Programme projects focused on Lyme disease mechanisms and vaccine development.

He has participated in multiple research projects including vaccine development for Lyme disease, with a patent filed for "Coupling of Borrelial protein BB0689 to virus-like particles for generation of Lyme disease vaccine". His international collaborations and specialized training through FEBS, EMBO, and EMBL courses demonstrate his commitment to advancing structural biology techniques in infectious disease research.
