Kaitlynn Mendes is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Inequality and Gender at the University of Western Ontario's Department of Sociology, part of the Faculty of Social Science. Her research focuses on gender inequality, digital technologies, sexual violence, and feminist activism, particularly how online spaces enable both harm and resistance. She leads the Gender, Equity, Media, and Society (GEMS) Research Lab and directs a SSHRC-funded project on digital safety. Her academic work spans mixed-methods studies on tech-facilitated violence, youth experiences, and feminist digital activism. Key interests include #MeToo movement dynamics, algorithmic harm, and policy interventions against online abuse.
Education: PhD in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University.
