Kaitlyn Chriswell is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) Center at Brown University. Starting in Fall 2025, she will join the University of Miami as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science.
Her research focuses on political violence and democracy, particularly how the local presence of criminal groups influences citizen-state interactions. She holds a PhD in Government from Harvard University (2023), with a dissertation examining the impact of criminal groups on governance in Mexican municipalities through mixed-methods analysis.
Her work has received support from the National Science Foundation (NSF GRFP), U.S. Institute of Peace, Weatherhead Center for International Affairs, David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies, and the Institute for Quantitative Social Science at Harvard. She specializes in fields such as Latin American politics, comparative politics, and the intersection of organized crime with state institutions.
