Hannah Baron is a Visiting Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Tulane University's Stone Center for Latin American Studies, affiliated with the Center for Inter-American Policy and Research (CIPR). Her research focuses on political violence, criminal violence, democratic erosion, and research ethics in Latin America and beyond. She holds a PhD and MA in Political Science from Brown University (2018) and a BA in Romance Languages and Literature from Harvard University (2014).
Baron has held fellowships at the Center for U.S.-Mexican Studies (UC San Diego), the United States Institute of Peace, and the Harry Frank Guggenheim Foundation. Her work emphasizes empirical methods to address ethical challenges in violent contexts and democratic stability. She has conducted fieldwork in Mexico, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Chile, Colombia, and Peru.
Publications include analyses of democratic erosion, Mexico's criminal justice system, and ethical research practices. She has received grants from the Watson Institute and Brown University's International Travel Fund. Her research bridges academic inquiry with policy relevance in security, governance, and human rights.
Baron's academic experience includes roles as a Peace Scholar Fellow and Emerging Scholar, alongside contributions to political science pedagogy through comparative approaches to U.S. democracy.
