Kaisa Ilmonen is a University Lecturer and Adjunct Professor in Comparative Literature at the University of Turku's School of History, Culture and Arts Studies. She holds dual roles as a Collegium Researcher at Turku Institute for Advanced Studies (TIAS) and Principal Investigator of the KONE Foundation-funded project Intersectional Reading, Social Justice and Literary Activism. Her research focuses on intersectionality's methodological applications in literature, cultural memory, and pedagogy, with specializations in Caribbean women's writing, postcolonialism, and queer studies.
Ilmonen's academic journey includes a 2012 doctoral dissertation on Michelle Cliff's novels and post-doctoral fellowships at TIAS and Uppsala University. She has extensive teaching experience across undergraduate to doctoral levels, including roles as student advisor and Erasmus exchange instructor. She is editor-in-chief of SQS Journal, board member of SELMA Research Centre and Third Space theatre company, and active in Finland's queer studies community.
Her current research explores intersectionality's genealogy, pedagogical uses, and narrative structures in scholarly discourse. She has published widely on queer rebellion in literature, decolonial feminism, and interdisciplinary teaching strategies.
