Kaiming Ye is the SUNY Distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Binghamton University, State University of New York (SUNY). He also directs the Center of Biomanufacturing for Regenerative Medicine. His work focuses on advanced biomanufacturing, bioprinting, and regenerative medicine, particularly in developing pancreatic islet organoids from pluripotent stem cells and engineering glucose sensors for diabetes management. He is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) and a Senior Member of IEEE.
Education: BS, MS, and PhD from East China University of Science and Technology.
Research interests include 3D bioprinting, stem cell differentiation, vaccine development, and nanomedicine. His innovations include fluorescent nanosensors for glucose monitoring and recombinant yeast-based influenza vaccines. He has led international initiatives like the WTEC studies on stem cell science and advanced biomanufacturing.
Professional highlights include organizing over 10 international conferences, serving as Editor-in-Chief/Editorial Board member for 13 journals, and advising national science policy through NSF and NIH collaborations. He received the 2016 “Career Champion” award from Binghamton University.
His lab focuses on bioinks, tumor models, and cell manufacturing, with grants from NIH, NSF, JDRF, and industry partnerships. He leads interdisciplinary teams in regenerative medicine, biomanufacturing standards, and translational research.
