Kai Schudel, Dr. phil., serves as Senior Teaching and Research Assistant at the University of Zurich's Institute of Educational Science within the Chair for Theory and Empiricism of School Educational Processes led by Prof. Dr. Katharina Maag Merki.
His research focuses on the theoretical and empirical analysis of students' educational processes in school, with particular emphasis on self-regulated learning - the ability of students to plan, monitor, and modify their own learning when goals aren't met. His work examines how optimal educational processes can be enabled and their effects on student outcomes, with special attention to creating educational systems that ensure all students can achieve goals according to their abilities.
Working within the framework of school effectiveness research, school development research, educational governance research, and self-regulation research, Schudel contributes to studies examining the actions of teachers, parents, and students, along with their motivations, goals, and strategies for adapting to educational challenges. His research aims to translate findings into practical improvements for school practice and the education system to reduce educational disadvantages and promote equal opportunities.
Schudel maintains a regular working schedule on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from his office at Freiestrasse 36, Room FRE-G-21 in Zurich, where he contributes to the department's mission of advancing educational science through rigorous theoretical and empirical work.
