Kai Müller is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), affiliated with the Walter Schottky Institute. He leads the Quantum Electronics and Computer Engineering group, established via the TUM-IAS Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track program in 2019 and promoted to a W3 professorship in 2022. His research focuses on quantum engineering of photonic systems, including quantum dots, nanophotonic circuits, and light-matter interactions for quantum communication, computation, and sensing. Müller holds a PhD from TUM (2013) and completed postdoctoral research at Stanford University (2013–2015). He is a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences’ Young Academy and has received grants such as the Quantum Futur program (BMBF) and the Feodor-Lynen Fellowship.
- Education: Physics studies and PhD at TUM (2013)
- Key Roles: Rudolf Mößbauer Tenure Track Professor (2019–2022), Promoted to W3 Associate Professor (2022)
Research Interests: Müller’s work spans quantum photonics, semiconductor nanostructures, and quantum devices. He explores novel quantum emitters, integrated photonics, and applications in quantum networks. His group develops ultra-low multi-photon probability single-photon sources, nanocavity systems, and optomechanical devices.
