University of Minnesota Twin Citiesمعرفی
Kahina Boukherroub is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Science at the University of Minnesota, based at the St. Paul campus within the College of Veterinary Medicine. She is actively engaged in research and teaching in the field of avian reproductive biology.
Education:
- Postdoctoral Research Associate, University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY, U.S.A. (2020)
- Ph.D., Biomedical and Integrative Physiology, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, U.S.A. (2019)
- B.A., with Distinction, Biological Sciences, University of Delaware, Newark, DE, U.S.A. (2013)
Her research focuses on avian reproductive physiology and immunology, particularly late lay infertility in breeder hens, disease susceptibility, and the impact of avian influenza on the reproductive system. She investigates the avian reproductive microbiome and the mechanisms underlying ovarian follicle development. A key innovation in her work involves developing organoid models to study reproductive function in poultry, which holds promise for improving breeder flock health and productivity.
Kahina Boukherroub teaches courses including ANSC 3511: Animal Growth and Development, POUL 5001: Avian Anatomy and Physiology, ANSC 4711: Breeder Flock and Hatchery Management, and ANSC 8510: Graduate Seminar (2023–2024), demonstrating her commitment to both undergraduate and graduate education in animal and poultry sciences.
Scientific Awards and Honors:
- Burroughs Wellcome Travel Award, Society for the Study of Reproduction (May 2023)
- University of Minnesota Certificate for Dedication to Student Learning (May 2022)
- Almquist Endowment Travel Fund (2016)
- Penn State Graduate Exhibition Award in Health & Life Sciences (Spring 2016)
- The Ruth Young Boucke Graduate Fellowship (Fall 2013)
- The James B. and Viola M. Bartoo Graduate Fellowship (Fall 2013)
- PNC Financial Corporation Endowed Graduate Fellowship (Fall 2013)
- The Stetson Award for Undergraduate Physiology Research (2012/2013)
- Senior Thesis Winter Session Scholar Award (Winter 2013)
- University of Delaware Undergraduate Supply and Expense Grant Award (2012–2013)
- Keith, M.T. Scholarship (2011–2013)
Kahina Boukherroub has been recognized throughout her academic career for excellence in research and teaching. Her graduate and postdoctoral fellowships reflect strong peer recognition of her scientific potential. She is actively involved in mentoring students through her graduate seminar and research program. Although specific grants are not listed, her research program appears to be supported by institutional and professional society funding, as evidenced by travel awards and internal recognition. She maintains an active research agenda focused on improving reproductive efficiency and health in poultry through integrative physiological and immunological approaches.
She is establishing innovative research infrastructure through the development of organoid models to study avian reproductive function, which may offer new avenues for disease modeling and therapeutic testing. This work bridges basic science with practical applications in poultry production and animal health.
