Rosemary Walzem is a Professor in the Department of Poultry Science at Texas A&M University, affiliated with the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences and Texas A&M AgriLife Research. Her research focuses on lipoprotein metabolism, particularly how triglyceride-rich lipoprotein structure influences nutrient delivery and metabolic processes. She explores mechanisms of lipoprotein assembly, dietary impacts on lipid physiology, and species-specific applications in avian and human systems. Notable areas include egg production efficiency and atherogenesis prevention.
Dr. Walzem teaches advanced courses such as NUTR/POSC 645 (Vitamin Metabolism) and NUTR/POSC 650 (Mineral Metabolism). Her work encompasses interdisciplinary collaborations, investigating lipid dysregulation in broiler breeder hens, cardiometabolic effects of dietary fats, and vitamin D analogues in cardiac health. Recent studies address obesity-associated cardiomyopathy and lipid-mediated inflammation.
Key themes in her research include: avian lipid physiology, lipotoxicity mechanisms in reproduction, dietary interventions for cardiovascular risk reduction, and analytical methods for lipoprotein profiling. Her studies span animal models (chickens, mice, dogs) and human clinical trials, emphasizing translational biomedical applications.
