K. Thirumaran is an Associate Professor and Acting Campus Dean at James Cook University Singapore. He specializes in tourism and hospitality management, with a focus on cultural and luxury tourism concepts like 'affinity tourism.' His research explores service excellence, emerging destinations' cultural values, and virtual/augmented reality applications in industry training.

Thiru teaches tourism through engaging methods including field excursions and Socratic-style debates. He actively mentors students, many of whom pursue impactful careers in ecotourism and hospitality. He organizes the annual campus debate competition and co-founded the World Luxury Destinations conference (2018).
He volunteers as an editorial board member for academic journals and collaborates with industry via MICE events. Outside academia, he enjoys swimming, bowling, and dragon boating.
