Prof. em. Dr. Jürgen Stolzenberg is an emeritus professor at the Department of Philosophy, Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg. His research focuses on modern philosophy, Kantian and German Idealist thought, Neo-Kantianism, early Heidegger, aesthetics, and the philosophy of music. He held the academic rank of Professor until his retirement in 2013.
Stolzenberg has held significant roles, including corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences, chairman of the Leibniz Edition steering committee, and associated researcher at Princeton University's Center for Human Values. He is a fellow of the Carl Friedrich von Siemens Foundation and serves on editorial boards of journals like Discipline Filosofiche and the Historical-Critical Complete Edition of Richard Wagner's Writings.
His research interests bridge philosophy and music, exploring themes like musical expression, Kantian aesthetics, and the interplay between philosophy and art. Notable works include 'Seine Ichheit auch in der Musik heraustreiben' (2011) and contributions to the Kant-Lexikon (2015). He has edited volumes on Christian Wolff, Fichte, and Kant's legacy, and actively participates in international conferences and editorial projects.
Stolzenberg's publications span monographs, edited volumes, and essays on topics ranging from Fichte's philosophy to Schostakovich's symphonies. His recent work (2024–2025) examines musical-aesthetic ideas, grotesque forms in Shostakovich, and Kant's influence on contemporary thought.
